Abstract

Subject and goals. In this paper, the authors review the current literature with the aim of defining, critical analysis and revealing the distinctive characteristics of "sustainable innovation" concept, as well as in order to identify leading scientific journals and works on the sustainable innovations research topic.
Methods. We applied a systematic literature review and content analysis.
Results. The key substantive characteristics and features of the concept of sustainable innovation are determined. The analysis reveals the most influential journals and articles in the studied field. The authors conducted a content analysis of the selected articles after a systematic literature review.
Results and conclusions. The combination of main aspects of the theory of innovation and sustainable development within framework of a single concept of sustainable innovation has led to a new research directions formation: strategic management of sustainable innovation, ecosystem and stakeholder approach to sustainable innovation, and assessing the economic efficiency of this type of innovations’ implementation in enterprises.
